Character and place in the range

Targa-feel while retaining body stiffness.

Dependent on the base 2-door sedan, ranging from the peppy 318i to the very rare 325i Baur.

Engine range

316 / 318i: Very common as entry-level Baur.

320i / 323i / 325i: Delivered as more powerful alternatives; the 325i Baur is a rarity today.

Inspection and maintenance

The seals of the specific Baur roof (both the hard front panel and soft rear section) require extra attention for leaks. Baur-specific parts are now very rare.

Condition varies more than specification. Inspect structure first, verify the engine’s time-sensitive service and road-test the complete car before valuing trim or options.

Details worth knowing

Many early 318i units were delivered as Baur. Managing and packing the two roof parts required some skill.

The Baur TC2 semi-targa conversion retains the B and C pillars, keeping the body structure stiff.
